So you might be wondering what a BlogEx is. Simply put, we’re conducting an exercise using the internet to update an ongoing scenario for the entire public to see and comment on. For Homeland Security Exercise purposes, it’s kind of like a Table Top Exercise done on the internet. We present a situation, and everyone comments on it.
The comments are the key to a successful exercise. We want to see what everyone has to say. There are probably a few things we haven’t thought of in pandemic flu planning, and maybe this is one way we’ll become aware of it.
Blog Goal: Community (government, business, citizens) gains an understanding about how panflu will unfold and impact them. The BlogEx will teach personal preparedness and continuity of operations while having one day focused on special populations.
Objectives of this exercise:
1. Educate the public by presenting information videos and presentations (Target Capability: Community Preparedness)
2. Receive comments from the public about specific situations (Target Capability: Community Preparedness)
3. Build a scenario over time for the Full Scale Exercise on July 30 so everyone is familiar with the history of the scenario.

The transparency you are demonstrating by placing this scenario online and by inviting public participation and comment is tremendous. You are truly serving your citizens to the best of your ability.
My hope is that other local, regional, and state public health departments will follow your lead and will begin to inform and engage their citizens in this way as well.

Darin, this is a tremendous way to deliver an exercise. Low costs in regards to travel, meals, time away from work, etc. This is definitely something that I will think about marketing to our potential clients.
